soul

The very heart of the design. A symbol designed to illustrate me in it’s entirety without anything else. The Soul is, perhaps, the most important piece of the entire design. The Soul here is found within a circle, a powerful symbol for me, for I believe all existence is continuous, and time doesn’t flow as a river. That circle is divided up into three sections, Light, Grey, and Dark. The three “colors” symbolize the three Fates. I personally feel the fates are much more then deities, for even the Gods themselves are bound to them. They are, therefore, to me, direct influences on all times and all things. The Fates Spinner (white), Weaver (grey), and Cutter (black) are all necessary for survival of the cosmos and effect me down to the core.
Atop that is a nautical star. A star comprised of Light and Dark sections. The star for me is an important symbol. It represents the Four Elements and Spirit. However, I feel that everything, every element and even Spirit itself, is comprised of Light and Dark, hence my choosing of the Nautical Star and it’s shading of it’s sections.
Overall, as a person, I strive to incorporate my light and dark halves to form a more whole me, and work with the Fates and the energy of Creation (spinning), Intermixing (weaving) and Destruction (cutting) to help balance me and keep me from getting too involved in any one of their forces. Therefore, I not only wanted to mention them within my tattoo, but I wanted to embrace them at the source and soul of the design.
(The background is also very similar to the Mitsu Tomoe)
